In this Module you are gonna learn how to call in Airstikes. We are gonna do Danger Close Firemissions and Tactical Airstikes.

Danger Close

Like the name already says it, danger close Airstrikes are used at very close distance of your position. You may get surprised by an enemy tank closing in or just be overwhelmed by infantry. In this case you call in an Danger close firemission.

- Use your radio to get in contact with the pilot
- Tell him what kind of weapon you request (Expl: A-10, FFAR or GAU8)
- Tell him the attack direction (Usually 90 degrees left or right of you direction of view. Like that the strafe will be in front of you)
- Inform him about AA presence at the AO
- Mark the Target area with smoke or IR strobe
--Inform the pilot about the marker and your position related to it
- The Pilot informes you about 20s before inpact
- Keep your head down and wait for the hits
- Check the target area for effect and give correction to the pilot if necessary
- Move on and continue your mission

It can happen that it gets really hot and you cant mark targets or anything. In this case you mark your own position and give the pilot the "weapons free" order. Then he is gonna engage everything he sees around your position.


Tactical Airstrikes

These Airstikes are being used do destroy a specific Target with a guided weapon (Ingame; LGB, Maverick, Hellfire). You use a Laser Designator to mark them from a secure distance.

The procedure to call in a tactical airstrike stays the same as with danger close firemissions. The only thing that is changing is the attack direction. The Aircraft has to approach from your 0600 to 1200 ( Same direction as you are lasing the target) to assure an early detection of the Lasermarker. Like that the pilot has time to get ready for bomb drop or missile launch.
